kenna dance

one day we watched kenna bug,
put her hair in pigtails,
and played a ukulele.

no one taught her those moves.
maybe she's born with it.

september 6th, i'm already ready for you...

anyone else get to eat up that finale?

how fun was that!

i heart janette.
it was good to see my [real] fav...

but my girl jeanine....
i wanted her of the 4:

Brandon-- great dancer, but also just rubbed us all the wrong way....
may or may not have to do with this here girly hip thing he would do at the end of a perfectly masculine solo.

one of the stronger dudes i have seen though.

Kayla-- so much fun to watch. serious talent.
insane extensions and lines.

unfortunately, she made a diva,
"i fight till i get what i want" comment

that i think may have tipped off the voters.
i still enjoyed every dance she was in.
a favorite for sure

Evan. i kind of just wanted him to win to stick it to em.
we all know that the judges, especially the racist black one,
thought that the white guy couldn't hack it.

but he is the michael buble of the dance world

and could get on any broadway show he wanted to right now...

and he is just a cuteface.

Jeanine.
wasn't she just fun to watch though?
and she isn't your typical dancer body, which makes me happy.

so much spunk, minus all of the diva stuff...

this bodes well for dancers in america....

and what? ... season 6 starts on sept 6th???

just 3 days shy of GLEE?

done and done.

thank you america, finally...

next week will be incredible because we got it right this time.

we were so happy for evan.
they tried so hard to say the white guy couldn't hack it.
i mean, brandon's solo was beyond incredible...

and jeanine and kayla will be a fun match.

one of the top two will win it though.

i hope its jeanine, personally.
[now that janette, the real winner, is gone...sigh]

so thank you,
you've totally redeemed yourself, america.
unlike my horrible day last week,
i shall sleep with a giggly smile on my still dancin face.

SYTYCD

i apologize for taking so long to do this, but here we are.

if i were the queen of everything (or at least the princess of quite a lot),

i would make these two so you think you can dance winners.

jeanette is yum.
she reminds me of the same stage presence as sabra or lauren,
who i also loved from the start.

jason is tasty. even cc says that, so i can.

here are a few of my favorites from past seasons...

wishing my proms were this awesome:

my two little sisters. looked stunning.
(sorry these don't have the holograms on them.
maybe next time...)

this was a fun shoot. we only had a half hour so we really had to hustle.
had we more time, i had a slew of fun places i woulda loved to see these dresses on!

due to the dresses,
and my feelings of slight nostalgia, they all turned very vintprinty.

oop, sorry...

distracted...

20 days.... couldn't help it.

maddi date = so cute.

the perfect reaction to maddi when she walked in,
"[audible gasp] you look absolutely beautiful!" atta boy.

as much fun as it was to go to prom and to look amazing and all that,
i was either running around helping couples off the dance floor (junior)
or only at the dance for 2 seconds because my date had to be home at 12 (senior).
good times.
pretty sure these kids all had a blast!

thanks for the killer shoot ladies.
it warmed my big sister-ish heart to think of all the hearts you broke in one night alone....

{email me for pricing if you are interested in some foto by meg.

whelmed. still over it.

why is my life so great right now, honestly?

dancing was bliss.
these girls are hilarious- so fun.

and then, hows about a 3 for 3 sunday?
sitting next to some of my most favorite people in the world,
(i.e. parentals, sister, tom & gail earl...)
those ones that never cease to inspire me with their optimism through all the mud,
a girl can't help but sob a few hours thinking of how seriouslysoblessed life is.
a cathartic day already...

oh- and happy super bowl day!
(aka "the-only-day-for-many-that-we-will-all-pretend-to-care-about-NFL")

ps. uncle tom, you can come play with me anytime you want.

you make my heart happy.
and we are praying for you...

tom leaned over after the meeting and asked,
"you wouldn't happen to have 3.5 million dollars would you?"
i about wet my new dress...

see what i mean?

i got an email from one of my students that just said,
"hi ms. moffat, we miss you at duke."
(when she replied, she let me know that the boys did their
"ms. moffat" dance for everyone at the christmas party... awesome.)

a friend of mine who teaches at the school IMed me this morning
and said that in response to:
"who would you choose for Time's person of the year 2008?"
a student put me... even funnier....

i think it is because they love that i am part black...
as evidenced here:

(note: I am new to this editing program...
there is one profane word that i tried to cover...
get over it. $--- happens, right?)

food, friends, and a handful of lemons

i live on the east coast.

there is good eats here.

i ate at a place called "oohs and ahhs"-- strictly soul food. collared greens, mashed yams, cornbread, potato salad, steak, ribs, and fried chicken... and yes, we ate it all.... and paid for it the whole night...

we watched this movie. so choice. (review soon on other blog...)

i also went to an improv show called "POTUS (pres. of the U.S.) Among Us." the comedians all have a phony platform and we vote on just two and they have various hilarious scenes that play out before we elect one to make a speech... so funny...

went to this place. danced in my latin shoes for over an hour and a half with a tall white kid that could show me whats what on the salsa floor. he gushed the whole way home about how good i was and how fast i picked it up... (please... white chocolate packs it in the back... and my mama gave me rhythm... sue me.)

then we went by a
falafel place. let me tell you about the goodness that is the amsterdam falafel: take chickpeas and mash em, roll em into balls and then fry em, then put them into a pita with a yogurty sauce, onions with garlicy mess on em, cucumbers, tomatoey things... talk about heaven. if you get one, be sure to smash your balls to fit in all the goodness (a sign said that- not me... but i just said it too... so...)

now, some inspiration: sent to me from the principal of my school this evening. might be a hint campy, but perhaps sometimes i need a reminder...

LEMONS and SUGAR

This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror
where one could read it every day.
You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.

1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.

2. At least 15 people in this world
love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you
is because they want to be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. You are special and unique.

8. Someone that you don't even know exists, loves you.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.

10. When you think the world has turned its back on, you
take another look.

11. Always remember the compliments you received.
Forget about the rude remarks.

And always remember....
when life hands you Lemons,
ask for Sugar and call me over!

Things that make me shimmy...

  1. Discovering how to edit my blogs to look awesome...and green!
  2. Amy Winehouse. Period. She's not black... but might as well be.
  3. My top five songs...yum. -->
  4. Black people in general... especially ones who KNOW they can dance!!
  5. Dancing with Cameron...and just dancing... (click to watch)
  6. Mango with sticky rice (available at most Thai restaurants)- I love this stuff from either coast- I usually shimmy whilst I eat, but this one's a given.
  7. Going up the elevator at work. Click to get cool Animations for your MySpace profile
I love to put my fists on my hips and think happy thoughts as I go up...then thinking that I just did that... usually results in a shimmy.
  8. My new awesome ways to shod my feet.. that make me "Thoroughly Modern" Yes- I am my mother's daughter- I also love red...and who doesn't? I included my tap shoes because I have become a little tapper these days... (if you needed to see it- well you would have to love musicals... and be in Utah...)
  9. Taco Bell. Enough said (possibly shouldn't have eaten what I just did as late as I just did... but no really...
  10. My new organized bathroom tote things that I got from Wallyworld- sweet find... I get giddy just thinkin about em...and yes, they are also red...get over it.
