aaron + gail

if you go see mary poppins this year, you might see our gail,
if you go see wicked this year, you might see our aaron

that's why they needed a cute foto of the 2
to keep in their respective dressing rooms

it is too bad that they are so fotogenic and what not
makes my job so hard...

probably my fave:

rob said, "ok guys-- be serious"
...2 actors = 2 interpretations:

we call that "deer in the headlights"

miss you guys- good luck in 2010.
see you on the road!

wickedly pink

i have visited the theater a bit lately....

and i feel revived.

(jeff mclean, our friend, is a fabulous warner)

(husband liked it. good sign....)

and now i have a small wish to be on stage again.

alas.
i enjoy my current state so much more that i bear the tinge of theatre-y emptiness.

wicked tour- get em.worth it.
legally blonde? its online. watch the whole thing.
(the girls are not worth the trip, but the boys are!)

ode to my MOH

for those hanging on to see what things will be happening next,
i wish i could show you the itinerary for this week.

if i swore, i might say somethin like,
damn, that is big!

but i don't.

today starts what we at the moffat house are calling,
MADDI WEEK!

the one that has a 4.2,
sings in choir,
(in which she won 2 awards)
rocks the musicals/shows,
(for which she won 4 awards)
watches over all the girls in her ward,
passes all kinds of tests,
looks like a bombshell at all the dances,
gets in to ASU,
(most likely with a full ride at this point),
sleeps around 2 hours a night,
doesn't, for the love, wake up to her alarm,
amazes me daily with her patience and good sense.

...and spends her saturday before graduation:

cleaning her sister's room,

doing her shopping,
oohing and ahhing at all the right times
when the most perfect dress/shoes were found.

some hot senior fotos we took a while back:

sista girl,
i'm so proud.
and i love your face.
thanks for being here for me.

this week is all yours though.

...until around fridayish when it might default back to me again.

oh. and did i have time to watch BL yet?
no.
do i know who won yet?
no.

if you tell me,
i will steal your firstborn.

check it: a little directing project...

so, i helped to direct these crazy faces in a project called TextAlive.

they are one school of 15 that got a scene from a Shakespeare play and they come up with their own concept and then {today} they put em all together—mostly for parents and show-off purposes... but it was a big deal.

i guess i don't have to tell you that their scene was the best one there...

the Shakespeare Theatre Company stage (that they performed on)

it was a great success. ok, maybe i will stay another week.

...but then i really have to go...

...cause my mom can't put up the tree without me...

food, friends, and a handful of lemons

i live on the east coast.

there is good eats here.

i ate at a place called "oohs and ahhs"-- strictly soul food. collared greens, mashed yams, cornbread, potato salad, steak, ribs, and fried chicken... and yes, we ate it all.... and paid for it the whole night...

we watched this movie. so choice. (review soon on other blog...)

i also went to an improv show called "POTUS (pres. of the U.S.) Among Us." the comedians all have a phony platform and we vote on just two and they have various hilarious scenes that play out before we elect one to make a speech... so funny...

went to this place. danced in my latin shoes for over an hour and a half with a tall white kid that could show me whats what on the salsa floor. he gushed the whole way home about how good i was and how fast i picked it up... (please... white chocolate packs it in the back... and my mama gave me rhythm... sue me.)

then we went by a
falafel place. let me tell you about the goodness that is the amsterdam falafel: take chickpeas and mash em, roll em into balls and then fry em, then put them into a pita with a yogurty sauce, onions with garlicy mess on em, cucumbers, tomatoey things... talk about heaven. if you get one, be sure to smash your balls to fit in all the goodness (a sign said that- not me... but i just said it too... so...)

now, some inspiration: sent to me from the principal of my school this evening. might be a hint campy, but perhaps sometimes i need a reminder...

LEMONS and SUGAR

This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror
where one could read it every day.
You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.

1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.

2. At least 15 people in this world
love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you
is because they want to be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. You are special and unique.

8. Someone that you don't even know exists, loves you.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.

10. When you think the world has turned its back on, you
take another look.

11. Always remember the compliments you received.
Forget about the rude remarks.

And always remember....
when life hands you Lemons,
ask for Sugar and call me over!

bragging rights

yeah... this is the school i will be at in the fall...
foto by meg moffat

and hopefully teaching at shortly following.

i am starting to get so
freaking excited
i can hardly stand it.

read here about the famous show that they put on last year....
{The Wiz}
their budget for this thing: $200, 000 dollars!
crazy donations from michael jordan foundation and others....
and many former stars and professional theatre practitioners worked on the project. the staff there sounds incredible!
i have to say, on the one hand,

i could not be more honored to be there
with such a high quality set of students and faculty...
not to mention the great programs at the school.
i mean, if they didn't let me teach theatre right away,
i am sure i could teach media literacy or creative writing....
and honestly—what would be so sad about that?!
on the other hand, it will be a miracle if they hired me....
i don't know what i could even bring to them that they don't already have.
guess i will have to live up the semester that i get to
shine
and then sub for the rest of my life...

(cue charlie brown depressing music...)

Dear Blog,

the show went great, and my wonderful family was so supportive to come. cute cousins were here to play with this weekend too—it was good to relax a bit and spend time with my people whom i love so much.

but now that the show is over, i have much to do.

i will report on this past weekend shortly, but first i have to:

  • write the first 3 pages of my 10-page beast due on thursday,
  • write up reviews of all of the collaborators of my show,
  • write a poetry unit for english on thursday,
  • write a disclosure document,
  • prepare a classroom management handbook,
  • read lengthy things and write up reports on them by wed and thurs, and friday,
  • do my laundry...,
  • pull a prank of some kind,
  • get the much-requested bread pudding recipe,
  • pack to go to DC this weekend!!

and then, blog, will i refill you will all of the joy and useless updates on my happy little existence that you may never want... or need.
