words to live by...

I am moved.

I have to say that it feels like the end of an era. All I know was this: His words touch my soul. His wrinkled smile warms me clear through. The feeling of him entering a crowded room of thousands of silent students. His waving cane above his head. Cue the tears.

I can't help but think of my sweet grannie and how she was released to go home to her companion. I have a feeling President Hinckley was just as eagerly received with a warm and patient smile. This may sound cliche, but it makes me think of the musical "Children of Eden" and I imagine millions of faces in a crowd singing, "children of eden, you and your children to come someday to come home".
I wish I was there.

There are days that I would read this quote and smile clear through as I pictured his little grinning body waddling through life with far more strength in his 97 year old frame than I will probably ever find.

“[The fact is] most putts don’t drop. Most beef is tough. Most children grow up to be just people. Most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration. Most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. …

“Life is like an old-time rail journey—delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed.

“The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride”
- President Gordon B. Hinckley
Thanks Gordon B. for the ride — "Until we meet."

  1. Dear Megan, You said it beautifully. I have tried to put into words what I am feeling right now and it's sadness for sure, but a little smile for how much I love President Hinckley, how much his life has meant to mine, the possibility of My Mom and Dad being there for the great Welcome Home of such a valiant man. Thanks for sharing your feelings. What a great heart you have! MOM
