nate berkus, you would be so proud...

i had a dilemma involving the whole
"guest-bedroom-slash-nursery" conundrum.
had to fit it all in one room and still feel
like it wasn't too much of a baby room or a guest space.

i think we did it.

member how i was going to make a quilt?
well i did.
{though my mom had to help me get it quilted...
being that i was having a baby and all...}

i love the prints, they turned out so stellar.
thanks angie, for the "i am a child of God" print.

and as much as i love this finished space,
i still can't wait to do real things in a real house...
sigh.

getting into the Spirit - Easter style...

found this little gem and it me me smile {slash} tear.
i had almost forgotten why this fun holiday exists.

then i was making this {not so} little print at my mother's request and it took on new life.

i love having a way to create really cheap decor to put up in my little temporary home.
and i love when it is bright and sunshiny too.

i am a printing press!

so i guess i was in the mood for the last little while,
cause i have been busy "making things."

i found this on this etsy site and got me an idea:

so i just printed this, and i love love it!!!
once i figure out how i want it on his wall, i will post that too...

and for those who have asked,
here are the links to print these.
i personally like the way they look on cardstock
{you will ant true white}
but of course you can print them at costco too.

downloadable 11x14
{some needed red, and i completely understand the need...}

i HEART conference

watching conference was inspiring {as always}
but when cc came home from priesthood meeting
with a great quote from pres. monson's talk,
i just wanted to make something.
get it out of my system, if you will.

"choose your love,
love your choice."

i listened to his great talk and notice's that a handful of others talked about love too.
it is fun when a different phase of life causes you to hear new things...
we heard a lot about marriage and love, but a lot about being parents.
it made for a happy day at the clifford house.
you can listen to all of the talks here.

so, in honor of my future bedroom redo,
and a current trend that i happen to enjoy,

gray + yellow subway art for our love room.

and i love it.

hurry future,
we need a house!

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

dear future,

i was recently introduced to my new favorite thing,
maybe in the whole world...
pinterest...

i have been busy putting together ideas and organizing my lists of ideas and things i want to do and make... oh if i had this so long ago!!!

cc always talks about all the things he would make if we were in a house... {being that he is toolman taylor and needs only the space to use the 100 tools he owns...}

i have wanted to redo our bedroom in these colors for.ev.er. but i didn't think he would like it {slash} we can't quite do it until we are in a real house...

i showed him this foto of the most perfect room idea and he said, "i can totally make that!" yes.

yes you can... {devious voice}

so now i can't stop dreaming of all things i want to to do in my house someday...
{hopefully this year.... but probably not...}

i will have to keep you posted on the fun things i find until i am able to act on my homey impulses. for now, check out my pin boards if you want- cause its the new addicting thing to do...

...building the nest.... stage two-ish....

get accent wall painted....
cause it's free and we need some color in there...

check.
yeah- its not as bright as i wanted...
but i think next to the vintagy "visiter's" quilt it will look just fine...

the brighter turquoise blues wont be too close to clash...
and quite frankly, i'm not here long enough to care.

the quilt i am going to do is inspired by this on at moda

and i now have all of the supplies to go ahead.

i had to quasi- redesign the pattern to fit a queen and made a few changes...
here's the pattern i designed in excel.
{and yes, i was given the stink eye by my husband when he saw that i had done so.
cause i always tease him for being so nerdy.}

"i don't want to hear it again," he says.

wish me luck
beginners shouldn't try this...

...building the nest.... stage one...

having a bit of a dilemma with the
guest room slash soon-to-be baby room...

you will notice a slight lack of space...

my dad and i re-uped this vintage vantiy when i was in high school...i still love it

as the baby things creep in [crib!!!],
things are getting tight up in here...

adorable crib my cousin just GAVE me... cause she probably wont have twins this time around...

the bed is a full...
so i can have parentals of all types,
but the ME quilt needs to go...

[thus the black n white-ish quilt fabric collecting...]

notice the new glider i inherited from cousin too!! she is going to help me recover it white...

the apartmentt manager tells me they will paint only one accent wall for free....
 and they only had browns and tans...

i put on a sad face and said i wished i could do a boy's room,
[behind her, the wall was the perfect blue/turquoise color...]

she is rad, so she is giving me a second wall for free!
 the window wall will be that potentially spot-on perfect blue...

and along with the red accents in the baby bumpers n things....
i think with have the red side of things covered...

 clifford looks like he could use some company...
or at least a little more testosterone up in the place!

oh, mom i thought i would give you a day to watch BL
before i  post an update....
whiner.

oh the thinks you will think...

 i guess you would call this nesting.

my sudden need to quilt and design a baby room...
i have been doing some online hunting...

and i decided, i am going to start with this one here,
that i absolutely love and i think it is [boy-ish] enough for me...

then find other fabrics sort of like these...

obviously there will be a color-matching issue if i get them all online...

then i was thinking,
since baby room is [currently] doubling as the guest room...
the bright mary englebreit quilt needs to go.
the furniture is mostly black and white... and red...
and then i will add the red and turquoise as the baby stuff goes.....

so i may have already purchased some fabric for that quilt...

 gettin the picture....

i know, i need to stop before i hurt myself.

i am quickly becoming my mother and will soon be hosting quilt groups!

don't mind me...

inspired by this gal's wedding slash entire home decor...
thanks, t.

 now if only i can capture this retro whimsy in a baby room...

i love the stripes, obviously these are the wrong color...

i wont be able to go all the way until we are in a house [fingers crossed]
in san diego,

but who says i can't collect and plot now
[cue evil laugh and burns fingers...]

"something new" (day one)

so maybe i should change the "something new" to

"only if i am feeling adventurous" day...

but on the bright side,

i arranged my ginormous lilies and they make me smile.

which was necessary after watching 2 full episodes of extreme home makeover.
hormones are fun.

good thing cc still squealed at how great i was for cutting potatoes for him.
gotta love that.

operation domestication - part two

now that i am home,
and i have my very own kitchen,

i have had time to bond with little red

who looks pretty cute in my little kitchen

but something was missing...

so with my drawer full of measuring cups,
(i thought we took back most of the extra ones!!)

the first batch of cookies were made.

and now i have canisters with food pregos eat.

then it was time to face some of the new appliances we haven't used.

peg taught me how to use my wok,

and then we tried out the pizza stone...

and after i spent some time with cousin emily-
who is crazy domestic
and sent me on my way with homemade jam
...right before she started her fresh bread,

i decided it was time to get organized her way.

this is going to be my food plan calendar:

every day is a new theme of food product
and they are kind of self-explanatory:
(but i will for you, cause i don't know how to shut up)

pasta = italian
something new = one of those things i have always wanted to try...
rice = asian
beans = mexican
date nite = not makin dinner-nu uh.
pizza = homemade naughtiness of many kinds
healthy/easy = some home-cooked sunday-style goodness

and i hope to fit in as many of my new/unused appliances as i can
and get as many new-ish recipes too...

of course i will share them with you if they are good ones.

i feel just like julie...

operation domestication: part one

just over a week ago,

we left 118 degrees for 70 degrees

before the largest truck ever showed up (about 4 days after we arrived),
we lived like this:

we quickly filled up the space...

and after opening box after box of unused wedding gift,
and finally spent the last of the target card,

we made this space a bit more like home:

guest bath:

thanks parentals for all of the help!

more pictures once we get more than just the bathrooms in check

though they are simple,
they make me shimmy like you wouldn't believe.
